Sala Mai Thai
                                                                (Thai Silk Exhibition & Museum Hall)

            The two – storey Sala Mai Thai is located inside the Khon Kaen Industrial and Community Education College. The Hall was inaugurated by H.R.H. Princess Maha chakri Sirindhon on July 29, 1993 to commemorate the 60th birthday anniversary of her Majesty The Queen, and to come under one of many projects of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhon in her royal efforts to overcome poverty and ignorance of the underprivileged children and youths in remote areas.

       The Hall serves as a center of learning, Development, conservation of Northeastern Thai culture and local wisdom, and as a museum for Mudmee Thai Silk, characteristic patterns and costume designs.


               Displaying are some collections of Northeastern Thai musical instruments, Northeastern Thai houses, tools, equipments, utilities, and traditional weaving machines, Ancient Thai silks with various patterns and designs are being exhibited only and not for sale.

              Demonstrations on cultivation of silk worms (Sericulture) and mulberry trees, and hand weaving of Thai silk by using traditional weaving machines are available for visitors.

               The Khon Kaen Industrail and Community Education College in collaboration With “The Rural Women Occupational Development Foundation” under the patronage of H.R.H. Princess  Maha chakri Sirindhon, gives “Mudmee hand Weaving training Programs” To housewives, youths, schoolgirls. and the disables, To improve their weaving skills. Dyeing technique and designs while maintaining the typical “Mudmee patterns” and the use of traditional hand weaving machines. The training projects will bring some additional incomes to the poor farmer families in rural Thailand. The products form members are available foe sale inside the Sala Mai Thai These include hand – Woven Mudmee Thai Silks, gifts and souvenirs made of silk cocoons, ready – made Thai silk dresses and shirts. Artificial flowers, scarves, neck – ties, handbag, purses, wallets, key-holders, handkerchiefs, napkin-envelopes, Also available are miniature northeastern Thai musical instruments: KAN (Flat bamboo mouth’ organ), WODE(Circular bamboo mouth’ organ) and many more.
